The “Champagne Metallic” vintage Porsche traveled from California to Ohio, then to Michigan and Georgia, before making its way to back to California where it landed at Porsche Palm Springs for a complete overhaul.
It’s all part of our 2022 Restoration Challenge.
Porsche Palm Springs’ Foreman, Ken, and Classic Technician, John, are finding all kinds of surprises within the engine of this 911 and acknowledge there’s plenty of work ahead in order to bring it back to its former glory.
Among the big issues of this Porsche restoration:
- The transmission was full of water.
- The oil had converted to sludge.
- The axle literally fell apart.
“At first glance we thought this car was going to be a lot cleaner,” says Ken. “But obviously it needs a lot of restoration.”
So far, the team has completed the teardown of the engine while working on the breaks, suspension and the gearbox. They also discovered a fair amount of internal damage that wasn’t initially apparent. Thankfully, connections for parts at Porsche Classic are just a call away.
Be sure to follow along as we take you on this automotive journey as we overhaul this vintage 911 as part of our Restoration Challenge. A final reveal of the 1982 Porsche 911 will take place in August 2021.
